NNPP chieftain Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim says Nigeria needs a new body to handle elections instead of INEC.

NNPP Leader Says INEC Should Be Replaced After Court Ruling

A former presidential candidate and NNPP chieftain Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has called for the disbandment of INEC following a Court of Appeal judgment on the Electoral Act.

Olawepo-Hashim said the court's decision exposed fundamental flaws in how elections are run and raised serious concerns about INEC's credibility.

The judgment rendered key provisions of the Electoral Act ineffective, he said, showing that far-reaching reforms are necessary.

He argued that INEC's current structure has become unworkable and should be disbanded and replaced with a more transparent and accountable body capable of conducting credible elections.

Olawepo-Hashim said electoral reforms must go beyond changing the law and address systemic weaknesses within INEC itself.

He stressed that democracy only thrives when elections reflect the genuine will of the people.

Nigerians deserve an electoral system that guarantees transparency, fairness and accountability.

The NNPP chieftain urged authorities to study the implications of the Appeal Court judgment and take urgent steps to strengthen democratic institutions.

He called on political stakeholders, civil society and citizens to support efforts aimed at reforming the electoral process and protecting the integrity of future elections.
