Police Officers Detained In Edo State For Extoring N300, 000 From Furniture Maker

 The spokesperson of the command, CSP Joel Yamu, said the officers involved have been promptly identified and detained.



The Edo State Police Command has announced it has recovered the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000) its officers extorted from a furniture maker.

 

This comes after an influencer, @miss_natural1 exposed the extortion by some officers attached to Oba Market Area Command, Benin City.

 

The influencer @miss_natural1 had shared the video alleging that the officers stopped a young furniture maker, Emmanuel, in the state for a search. She mentioned that after not finding anything incriminating on him, the officers then demanded he provides N1 million before they will allow him go. She said the officers successfully extorted N300, 000 from him.

 

In a statement released on Monday, September 15, the spokesperson of the command, CSP Joel Yamu, said the officers involved have been promptly identified, the money has been fully recovered and returned to the victim, while the said officers have been detained and are to face disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

 

Yamu added that in addition, stern administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to ensure professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of citizens in the discharge of their duties.

 

He further stated that the Command under CP Monday Agbonika, encourages members of the public to report any unprofessional conduct by officers and men of the Command to the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) or the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) through the following dedicated telephone numbers 08150999335 and 08100389992.

 

Yamu assured the good people of Edo State that it remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in service delivery.
