Ex-NFF President, Ibrahim Galadima d!es at 74
Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Galadima, has died at the age of 74, throwing the Nigerian football community into mourning.
Galadima, who served as head of the Nigeria Football Association (now Nigeria Football Federation) between 2002 and 2006, was widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential sports administrators. Nigerian Political Analysis
He previously held several key positions in sports administration, including Chairman of the Kano State Football Association, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council, 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports in Kano State.
He also served on the Presidential Monitoring Committee for Stadium Development ahead of Nigeria’s hosting of the FIFA World Youth Championship.
Reacting to his death, current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau described Galadima as a mentor and father figure to many in Nigerian sports.
“This is another one that hit us hard. Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was a mentor to so many of us who are in various leadership positions in Nigerian sports today. He was the epitome of high dignity, diligence and integrity.
We will miss his fatherly advice and words of wisdom dearly. Our prayer is that the Almighty Allah will grant him eternal rest and grant the family he has left behind and the Nigerian football family the fortitude to bear the big loss,” Gusau said.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Kano, Galadima spent decades in sports administration, serving in various capacities from the late 1970s through the 1990s and early 2000s.
His long career included leadership roles in Kano State sports, national committees, and government appointments, making him one of the most respected figures in Nigerian sports history.
